First, let’s see what is the definition of defoaming? Defoaming is taking measures to break the formed foam or reduce the thickness of the foam layer.

Usually, there are three kinds of defoamer methods according to their different working principle:

The physical method is changing the viscosity or physical properties of foam to make the foam burst, and the chemical composition of foam remains unchanged.

For example, Ultrasonic defoamer methods is a typical physical one.

The principle is to use the destructive properties of high-frequency acoustic vibration to promote foam collapse

The mechanical method is to use a mechanical defoamer to eliminate foam. Mechanical defoamers are also called defoaming pumps, defoaming motors, etc.

Its working principle is to use the principle of centrifugal force.

The foam enters the working area of the high-speed rotation module through the inlet of the defoamer.

The shearing force provided by the high-speed rotation module quickly tears up the air bubbles. The liquid released by the air bubbles is immediately dropped by the centrifugal force and compressed As a liquid stream, it is returned to the fermentation tank to reduce the escape loss.

Its characteristics are that the defoaming method using a physical defoamer does not need to add defoaming additives, which guarantees the purity of the medium to the greatest extent, and is safer and environmentally friendly.

The disadvantage is that its effect is often not as fast and reliable as the defoaming agent.

It requires certain equipment and consumes a certain amount of power. Its biggest disadvantage is that it cannot fundamentally eliminate the formation of foam, so it is often used as an auxiliary method of defoaming.

The chemical method is a defoaming method that uses chemical defoaming agents to eliminate foam. It is also the most widely used anti-foaming method.

The principle of this method is: by adding chemical agents to the foam base liquid, changing certain properties of the foaming agent to achieve the purpose of inhibiting foam, including adding surfactants of opposite models, adjusting the pH value and adding defoaming agents.

The advantage is it has a better defoaming effect, easy to use, and no special equipment required. No need to change the production process. Widely chosen according to different requirements.
